PROFILE AND RESEARCH INTERESTS

I teach undergraduate medical, nursing students and train post graduate students in medical biochemistry.

My areas of research interest include studying the role of iron homeostasis in development of diabetes mellitus. I am also interested in pathogenesis of diabetes mellitus in Indians.

My works include several metabolic studies in normal subjects, patients with Type 1 DM, Type 2 DM, gestational diabetes, and fibrocalculus pancreatic diabetes. The metabolic studies I am experienced in includes measuring insulin sensitivity by euglycemic-hyperinsulinemic clamps, beta cell function through oral glucose tolerance tests and mixed meal challenge tests, energy expenditure by calorimetry.

I am trained in biostatistics and work with R programming language and Python.  I am also interested in working with big databases.  I have estimated reference interval of several analytes by indirect methods using hospital database. I am also working on published national survey databases to study regional differences in dietary pattern in India and its relation to nutrition related outcomes.

1. Targeted Second-Generation sequencing for the molecular genetic diagnosis of Maturity   Onset Diabetes of the Young (MODY) 

2. Metabolic characteristics of lean diabetes in rural and semi-urban India 

3. Study on metabolic characteristics in subjects with fibrocalculous pancreatic diabetes from  India.
